Masseter Muscle Injections

We can prevent teeth grinding and help relieve and even stop pain in the jaw area through the use of botulinum toxin injections in the masseter muscle.

The masseter muscles are the muscles at the sides of the jaw, just behind the cheeks, which control our chewing. As the strongest muscles in the human body – and some of the most frequently used – they can easily become a point of pain and dysfunction, leading to bruxism, also known as teeth grinding, jaw tension, headaches, and temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ). Patients experiencing these issues often find little to no relief from their pain via the usual medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, and bruxism can lead to tooth wear and other issues in the mouth. Thankfully, we can now treat and address the issue through wrinkle correction treatment.

How does this treatment work?

With wrinkle correction treatment, we can block the signals that cause the muscles to contract, reducing the strength of muscle contractions. It helps to keep the masseter muscles relaxed for up to five months after the treatment, which in turn can help reduce the amount the muscles contract in the long term.
